The Beaver

Hello Everyone,
I'm sorry it has been awhile since I last posted anything.

Our current art project is a wire sculpture.

I am enjoying it immensely, except I do believe I am allergic to the metal we are using....I'm going to have to check up on that....
Anyways, we all had to reach into a plastic bag, and, without looking, we had to retrieve a little plastic animal.

......I got a beaver.....

Okay, I'll admit it: at first I was very disappointed with the animal I got.  BUT, I am really starting to like my little beaver now.  We have been through a lot together.
Our mission is to sculpt the animal 20 times larger then the little plastic creature.
I started out by making just a very basic wire outline of the body shape.  it was rather two dimensional at first, and then slowly I added to it, making it three dimensional.  Then I added legs, and ears and I am now on the process of weaving in the wire and basically just making it look like a beaver.
It's taken a lot of resculpting and reconfiguring.  A few times, I had to kinda take it apart, cause it just wasn't quite right.  But I think now I have the right body shape and I am on the home stretch!

I think...

I will post some pictures of it when I am done!

Photo Collage

Our most recent art assignment was to take photos from two different places, and then put the photos together to form a new scene.  At first, this sounds easy, fun, and do-able, but as I began taking photos, I realized this wasn't going to be quite as easy as I had thought.  It's not just about thinking about cool ideas for a composition. #1 you have to take pictures with a lot of the same lighting #2 you have to take pics that will fit together and tradition nicely  #3 You have to make sure you take enough photos, and that they don't all look exactly the same ....I'm sure there are others but those are all I can think of at the moment.
Anyways, I went through a bunch of ideas, all playing with the same kinda of general composition.
                                                          I wanted benches and trees.
Don't judge. I had my ideas. And they just happened to all have benches and trees in them.  I like trees. And there are many many benches on campus.
I ended up printing out about 140 photos...yes.
I only used about 50.  (I know, I know)
But I was glad I had that many photos to chose from.  There is a saying in photography that goes something like this, "Out of 100 photos, you might get 2 photos worth keeping"....enough said.

All these photos to sort through.......
Putting it all together......
Finished!
