The Joy Of Art

Today, I saw a man....made entirely our of tape.  He was sitting outside in the sunshine, basking in the little metal chairs outside of the Great Hall.  It's a pretty cool piece of artwork, so I stopped for a moment to look at it, before sitting down a few tables away, in my own little metal chair.  As I sat there, almost fifteen people passed by, and all of them commented on the Man of Tape.  It was all, "Oh that's so cute!"  or "Wow, look at that! That's so cool!"  or  "Hey! I want to get a picture of that!"  And so I sat there, watching people's days become so much better because of man made of tape.  They all walked away with smiles on their faces.  And I know this sounds really stupid, like a Hallmark movie or something, but it's true.  Art creates emotions; It leaves you feeling different.
Not all art makes you happy though.  Art can be depressing, irritating, gross, stupid, ugly, and many other negative adjectives.
Let us also be reminded that art is not only pictures and sculptures; it is music, poetry, prose, paintings, photography, drawings, ceramics, flower arrangements, gardens, theatre etc.  I believe that art is simply creation.  Anything that is created can be art.  All art has to be created.  Not just from someone's imagination, but it can be inspired by past occurrences or feelings.  Art is more powerful then most people realize.
Let's take for example Giotto's Arena Chapel in Padua Italy. Now, at the time (during the 1300's), not too many people could read, so Giotto painted a timeline of Jesus's life, so people could now know about Jesus.  The paintings not only told stories, but Giotto's paintings also evoked so much emotion, that many people could relate to the feelings and could more easily understand religion, and all that.
So *ahem*I guess what I'm trying to say, is that a painting isn't just a painting.  And you shouldn't see a sculpture, and say to yourself, "oh, it's just another naked roman dude..." because art is so much more then that, and if you take the time to study it, and learn about it, you will be able to better appreciate everything around you.  Or, at least, well, I think so, anyways.
        So, have an awesome Friday!
